World’s Smallest Earbuds

Thanks to a clever group of engineers formerly of Sony Ericsson and Nokia, 'Earin' could just well be the world's first earbuds that are truly wireless.

The headphone market has grown beyond anyone's wildest expectations, we dare say even more than Beats could have dreamed of. With serious coin being thrown at the 'next big thing' for this market, Earin could well be the answer.

Two miniscule buds with independent batteries utilise the Bluetooth AptX codec for wireless transmission. AptX offers CD quality streaming, as we discovered and were so impressed with in our recent review of the Chord Hugo.

Promising up to three hours of charge, it's certainly enough for the daily commuter. But wait, when not in use the buds are stored in a purpose designed small tube that actually recharges the buds.

The story is actually quite interesting.

“Earin represents Olle Lindén’s vision which came to life in 2008 after seeing the intro of the movie ‘Definitely Maybe’, where the actor Ryan Reynolds walks down a crowded New York city street with just a pair of small earbuds without cables, listening to, as he says “the soundtrack of a perfect day”. After seeing this movie, Olle was inspired to “create a perfect wireless experience” so his headphones were formed.”

While apparently at the time the technology did not exist to bring his idea to reality, fast forward five years and the time is now.

With a design focus “to deliver the best possible music experience” with a focus on “simplicity, size, fit and audio-quality”, we're sold and have pledged our support.

That's right, in what seems to be the growing trend in consumer electronics products, Earin has launched via a Kickstarter project. At the time of writing, in just three days from launch, Earin have raised £254,086 of their £179,000 goal. There's still 37 days to go!

What you see here is the future of buds, readers.

From £99 you could own a pair from January 2015.
