VPI INDUSTRIES HW-40 DIRECT DRIVE TURNTABLE LIMITED EDITION BIRTHDAY DECK

The HW-40 direct drive turntable from the Cliffwood, New Jersey family firm VPI Industries has been built to mark brand’s 40th anniversary.

With a limited edition production of only 400 turntables, prices are expected to be around the $15,000 mark. UK pricing and availability has not yet been confirmed.

VPI HW-40 Direct Drive Turntable

As you can see from the images, the HW-40 is a tasteful combination of aluminium, stained solid black walnut wood, and the new Fat Boy 3D printed tonearm. Naturally, the turntable's main feature is an updated and upgraded version of VPI's award-winning direct drive motor. Thanks to an iron-less coil assembly, combined with overlapping V-shaped coil construction, VPI tells us that this eliminates the cogging that accompanies traditional direct drive motors.

Additionally, that drive motor is capable of 2.68 Nm/sec torque, and is able to accelerate the 25lb platter assembly to full speed and then decelerates to stop in one second.

Perhaps surprisingly, the turntable has an internal power supply and control circuitry. However, this does make it even quicker to get set-up and spinning.

As well as the JMW-12 Fatboy Gimbal gifted with Nordost Reference wire, you also get the new VTA Base on the Fly and a dust cover.
