TEAC AP-505 POWER AMPLIFIER NOW AVAILABLE

The TEAC AP-505 reference power amplifier has just been released, and StereoNET has all the details.

The AP-505 power amp produces a maximum 115W + 115W of output power in stereo/bi-amp modes and 220W in BTL/bridged mode.

Classic reference design

TEAC AP-505

TEAC's new AP-505 has all the marks of a classic reference power amp. Check out the analogue level meters on the front panel that move in response to signal levels. There's even a four-step dimmer (bright, mid, dim off) for the display. Lastly, you can dial in the desired sensitivity (±0dB, +20dB, movement off) to alter how much meter movement you get.

Lift the lid on the robust steel chassis flanked by lightweight aluminium-alloy panels, and you'll find a Hypex Ncore power amplifier module. Naturally, this has been breathed on by TEAC's R&D team.

The new amp's fully-balanced circuit design runs from input to output, keeping the AP-505's audio signal as unadulterated as possible as it moves through the amplifier, the result being. The result is extremely low distortion levels and an excellent signal-to-noise ratio (assisted by the effective elimination of common-mode noise).

The sound of silence

Employing a high-end high capacity toroidal-core transformer complete with Schottky barrier diodes in the rectifying circuit the TEAC AP-505 boasts a 'cleaner' supply and a more stable delivery of current.

The AP-505 runs silent thanks to its fanless design. Furthermore, at the input stage, high-quality MUSES8820E dual op-amps are employed for both the XLR and RCA inputs.

The power supply section for the input stage, both channel's rectifying circuits are entirely independent of the power transformer onwards. Additionally, there are four, high-capacity, 4700μF capacitors on each channel (8 in total), enabling clear soundstage separation between channels, so says TEAC.

Finally, the AP-505 sits on TEAC's patent-pending 'Pin-point' feet, located at three strategic positions.

Price and availability

The TEAC AP-505 is available now in black or silver for £1,349 / €1,499.
