QED has unveiled its new Performance HDMI Active Optical Cable.

QED's Performance HDMI Active Optical Cable is designed for use in high-quality custom installations, and home studio environments, requiring longer lengths of cable states the British cable manufacturer.

We are told that the cable features a hybrid arrangement combining a copper core with optical fibre that's said to create a cable that resists data degradation even over extremely long lengths – from 20m to 100m. Furthermore, the new cable doesn't require an external power supply to operate.

The HDMI Active Optical Cable can handle all current and upcoming HDMI 2.1 standards: it is fully compatible with 8K resolutions at 60Hz, 4:4:4 and can transmit data rates of 48 Gb/s over long lengths, according to QED. Additionally, the cable is said to be compliant with HDCP 2.2 specifications as well as supporting HDR, eARC, multi-channel audio formats including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, as well as next-generation game console technologies.

The cable features a Low Smoke Zero Halogen jacket and complies with rigorous UK and EU Reaction to Fire regulations. The upshot of that is that it can be professionally installed and concealed securely within the structure of a building. Furthermore, the cable has zinc-alloy HDMI connectors for enhanced durability and performance, while triple-shielding further protects the cable against interference for optimal signal quality.
