PRINCE ORIGINALS AVAILABLE FROM VAULTS IN JUNE
Prince certainly rates as one of the greatest artists, performers, and songwriters in my lifetime to date. The fact that one of his songs might just be a favourite of yours without you knowing makes his legendary status even more fitting.
There aren't many singer-songwriters who will knowingly gift undeniable hits such as Nothing Compares 2 U, Jungle Love, and Manic Monday to other artists, but such was the creative genius known as Prince.
Prince had many hits during his 40-year career, and by the mid-1980s, in addition to releasing nine of his most commercially successful albums, he also wrote and recorded dozens of songs for proteges The Time, Vanity 6, Sheila E., Apollonia 6, and more, not to mention all the unreleased tracks.
Marking his birthday on June 7th, the late artist’s estate in partnership with Warner Bros Records and Tidal will release Originals. The 15-track album features 14 previously unreleased recordings by Prince of songs that continued their lives with other artists. The tracks were selected from Princes 'Vault' recordings collaboratively by Troy Carter, on behalf of The Prince Estate, and Jay-Z.
The only previously released track is Prince’s original 1984 version of Nothing Compares 2 U, which was issued in 2018 as a standalone single. The song was originally released in 1985 by The Family and made into an unforgettable No. 1 single by Sinead O’Connor five years later. The album also includes Prince’s versions of four songs he produced for Sheila E. and two by The Time.
In the spirit of sharing Prince’s music with his fans as he wanted, the album will be available to stream in Master quality via Tidal’s HiFi subscription tier. Members will be able to hear the recordings just as the Artist intended the tracks to sound.
Additionally, on June 21st, Warner Bros Records will release Originals on CD with 180 gram 2LP and limited edition Deluxe CD+2LP formats following on July 19th.
