MCINTOSH MC312 300-WATT POWER AMP IMPROVES ON MC320

The newly announced McIntosh MC312 stereo power amplifier comes in to replace the MC320 with new features, performance and design.

This new 300-watt US-made stereo amp introduces numerous improvements over the outgoing MC302.

The MC312 Power Amplifier not only features several internal upgrades, but you will also notice significant additional design updates, bringing the new model in line with the New York-based manufacturer's latest styling details.

The MC312 Power Amplifier's full 300 watts can be delivered to almost any speaker, regardless of impedance; this is a skill enabled by McIntosh's proprietary Autoformer transformer tech.

The improvements compared to its predecessor includes doubling the filter capacity, increasing dynamic headroom by 27% (from 1.8dB to 2.3dB). McIntosh states that the upgrade enables the MC312 to deliver dynamics more effectively and also improves distortion-prevention and bass performance.

Additionally, numerous circuit components have been upgraded, along with the internal wiring. Balanced and unbalanced outputs have been added to enable bi-amping or tri-amping speakers; these can also be used to connect to a secondary system if the preamplifier doesn't have enough connections or to add a powered subwoofer.

Eagle-eyed McIntosh fans will spot design tweaks such as a new location for the audio output Autoformers; they are now in new enclosures capped by a single cover. The enclosures also boast glass inserts detailing the wiring diagram for each transformer.

Other design updates include the addition of McIntosh's exclusive Monogrammed Heatsinks, an eco-friendly power management system and direct LED backlighting illuminating the front panel for improved colour accuracy.

The MC312 also contains many additional McIntosh technologies including Power Guard; Sentry Monitor; Power Control and McIntosh's patented Solid Cinch speaker binding posts.

The MC312 sits on a polished stainless steel chassis and features the timeless McIntosh black glass front panel with illuminated logo, control knobs, aluminium end-caps and a pair of fast-responding blue Watt indicators.

Pricing and availability

The MC312 will be available in the UK in November priced at £9,995.
