Logitech Exits Harmony Remote Control Business

In a move tipped by StereoNET and speculated by many AV enthusiasts over recent months, Logitech has announced it will no longer manufacture Harmony remotes.

Logitech said in its announcement:

While Harmony remotes are and continue to be available through various retailers, moving forward Logitech will no longer manufacture Harmony remotes. We expect no impact to our customers by this announcement. We plan to support our Harmony community and new Harmony customers, which includes access to our software and apps to set up and manage your remotes. We also plan to continue to update the platform and add devices to our Harmony database. Customer and warranty support will continue to be offered.

For months now, stock has been in short supply via retailers, particularly with the higher-end models being unavailable.

Logitech has further stated it will continue to support its remotes “as long as customers are still using them”. Logitech will also honour all warranties for products still available for sale in the marketplace.

This is a blow to consumers looking for a basic automation system without investing in much higher priced systems such as RTI and Control4. NEEO looked like a promising remote that many tipped would challenge Logitech's Harmony platform; however, Control4 snapped up NEEO and integrated it within its platform.

The market is left with predominantly software/app-based remote solutions now. The race is on, and the market wide open for the next Harmony replacement. Amazon, are you listening?

Let us know in the Forum if you can suggest any future Harmony replacements.
