Electrocompaniet Releases ECI 6 MKII / ECI 6DX MKII Integrated Amplifiers

Electrocompaniet has launched new versions of both its ECI 6 integrated amplifier and its ECI 6DX streaming integrated amp/DAC.
Norway's Electrocompaniet isn't one for constantly announcing new products which makes this news even more exciting as we don't have one, but two to tell you about!
The Norwegian high-end brand has released a pair of updated products to its Classic line - the ECI 6 MKII integrated amplifier, and the ECI 6DX MKII integrated amp/DAC/streamer.
Electrocompaniet ECI 6 MKII
The new ECI 6 MKII (€4,999) is based on the successful ECI 5 MK II and features a better power supply and a more sophisticated preamplifier module, according to the manufacturer.
The ECI 6 MKII integrated amplifier produces 2 x 125 Watts at 8 Ohms, 2 x 200 Watts at 4 Ohms and 370 Watts at 2 Ohms and boasts four analogue inputs - one XLR and three single-ended RCA. With two preamplifier outputs, one balanced and one single-ended, the ECI 6 MKII is ready for future expansions, states the longest-running Norwegian hi-fi brand.
We are told that the input stage is built from discrete circuits running in class A with zero feedback. Additionally, the output stage runs with moderate amounts of negative feedback, carefully balanced between good bass extension and control, a detailed open midrange and a warm, detailed top.
The 20.5 Kg integrated has a claimed frequency response of 1Hz–150 kHz, a THD (20Hz-20kHz) <0.004% and channel separation of <120 dB.
Naturally, the ECI 6 MKII features design upgrades introduced with the MKII Classic series, including a new front plate design and updated more rigid chassis.
The ECI 6 MKII can be upgraded to become the ECI 6DX MKII, which brings us nicely on to…
Electrocompaniet ECI 6DX MKII
Electrocompaniet states that its new ECI 6DX MKII (€5,999) combines a best-in-class feature set with cutting edge audio technology and can “play whichever, wherever and whatever audio source you may have and makes it sound like music was meant to be”.
Again, we see the MKII design upgrades, such as new front plate design and the more rigid chassis. It also shares its amplifier tech with the ECI 6 MKII.
Like it's predecessor, the ECI 6DX MKII sports an extremely powerful built-in streamer which is said to be flexible and easy to use. It can play directly from music services such as Tidal, Qobuz and Spotify, and can also be fed music through AirPlay or DLNA. Furthermore, the streamer can index and play from your networked music collection with all popular formats being supported including WMA up to 192kHZ/24bit, and DSD up to DSD 128 (5.6 MHz).
The ECI 6DX MKII adds a SPDIF (24bit/192kHz), a pair of Toslink (24bit/96kHz), and one asynchronous USB input that also supports up to 24bit/192kHz to the standard ECI 6 MKII party. There is also a USB input for storage devices.
As well as the Gigabit Ethernet and advanced 802.11 AC WiFi with MIMO, the ECI6 DX MKII introduces Bluetooth support to the ECI 6DX family, enabling you to stream from any phone or tablet to your ECI 6DX MKII.
Of course, like any streamer worth its salt, the ECI 6DX MKII can be operated an intuitive application from iOS and Android mobile devices. Also, you can use the universal web interface, or simply via a straightforward IR remote control.
Pricing
The Electrocompaniet ECI 6DX MKII is priced around €5,999, whereas the ECI 6 MKII without digital sources and streaming costs in the region of €4,999. We are awaiting confirmation on local pricing.
