Denon Reveals 110th Anniversary Range

Denon is marking its 110th birthday with a quartet of special edition products.
Denon is celebrating 110 years in the business with an Anniversary Edition AVC-A110 A/V amplifier (£4999), PMA-A110 integrated Amplifier (£3199), DCD-A110 SACD player (£2799), and DL-A110 MC phono cartridge (£499).
Not only has each product been meticulously tuned by Denon Sound Masters and comes with a special certificate, but they also sport an exclusive silver-graphite colourway and 110 Anniversary logos. Furthermore, we are assured that all four 110 Anniversary products are manufactured exclusively at the Denon factory in Shirakawa, Japan and undergo an extended quality assurance process before delivery.
Denon has made its mark on the audio world several times since setting up shop in 1910. For instance, it was Denon that produced Japan's first phonograph as well as Japan's first professional disc recorder, which captured the first audio recording of Emperor Hirohito's voice at the end of World War II. Perhaps most notably, Denon introduced the first CD-ROM format in 1985, undeniably transforming the future of audio and entertainment. Also, you can thank Denon for the world's first Universal Blu-ray player as well as the first 8K AV receivers.
AVC-A110 AV Amplifier
The flagship AVC-A110 13.2-channel 8K AV amplifier boasts all the popular 3D formats such as Dolby Atmos, DTS :X, DTS :X Pro, IMAX Enhanced, Auro-3D, as well as 8K/60Hz pass-through or upscaling, 4K/120Hz pass-through for gaming and support for the latest HDMI specifications.
The AV amplifier is wrapped in a limited-edition silver-graphite finish with aluminium front and side panels, custom die-cast feet and a copper transformer plate for superior isolation.
The AVC-A110 features the latest HDMI connectivity (8-in/3-out) including a dedicated 8K input along with the latest dynamic HDR standard that promises brighter highlights and deeper black levels. Additionally, the eARC HDMI feature (through the main HDMI output) enables uncompressed and object-based audio formats such as Dolby Atmos and DTS :X to connect directly from a smart TV app to the amp for lifelike audio performance.
Gamers are also said to benefit from the AVC-A110's Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and Quick Frame Transport (QFT), minimising lag and latency while eliminating frame tearing for more fluid and enhanced gaming.
The AVC-A110's hefty 8.2kg high current power transformer and custom 22,000uF/80V audio capacitors deliver 150 watts per channel (8 ohms, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 0.05% 2ch Drive).
Finally, networked audio is supported through the HEOS built-in wireless multi-room music streaming tech. Here you get Apple AirPlay 2 as well as access to the most popular music services such as Spotify, Amazon Music HD, TIDAL, Deezer and more. Also, you can enjoy hands-free control of the AVC-A110 thanks to compatibility with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple Siri voice command engines.
PMA-A110 Integrated Amplifier
The Denon PMA-A110 is the anniversary edition for two-channel hi-fi fans. Powered by Denon's patented 7th generation advanced Ultra High Current (UHC) topology, the PMA-A110 integrated amplifier delivers 80 Watts at 8 ohms (20kHz-20Hz, THD: 0.07%) of ultra-clean power per channel, we're told.
Denon says that its engineers carefully constructed the amplifier circuit to secure a frequency response of up to 100-kHz during applied use. The volume circuit suppresses noise in the amplifier, achieving high sonic resolution. Your digital audio comes in by way of jitter-suppressing Coaxial, Optical or USB-B inputs connected to a Quad DAC that uses four Burr-Brown PCM1795 chips, two per channel, working in a differential mode. Accurate hi-res audio of PCM up to 384kHz and DSD up 11.2mHz aka DSD256 with an impressive signal to noise ratio should be the order of the day here.
The PMA-A110 is also equipped with Ultra AL32 Processing, the latest in analogue waveform reproduction technology from Denon. With a maximum of 32x oversampling of the input signals sampling frequency, the output sampling frequency is either 1.411MHz (on fs 44.1kHz) or 1.536MHz (on fs 48kHz) reproducing the audio signal with any detail.
Naturally, it's not only digital audio fans that benefits from the PMA-A110, but vinylistas can also connect both Moving Magnet (MM) and Moving Coil (MC) cartridges to the anniversary amp's phono stage.
Inside the PMA-A110 and DCD-A110
DCD-A110 SACD Player
A perfect digital partner for the PMA-A110, the limited edition DCD-A110 flagship SACD player, promises top-notch playback of CDs and Super Audio CDs, as well as DSD (2.8-Mhz/5.6-MHz) files and high-resolution audio files up to 192-kHz/24-bit, recorded on DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW discs. You can also play music files with sampling frequencies of up to 48kHz recorded on CD-R/RW discs.
The DCD-A110 boasts Denon's patented Suppress Vibration Hybrid (SVH) mechanism usually spotted on Denon's high-performance players and features the shortest possible signal paths to reduce noise. Additionally, premium materials are employed such as a copper plate for the top panel to strengthen rigidity, die-cast aluminium for the disc tray, and 2-millimeter thick steel for the mechanism brackets. These high-mass, vibration-resistant elements work in concert with the mechanism's low centre of gravity in suppressing any vibration occurring inside the player.
The DCD-A110 introduces a new Quad PCM1795 DAC configuration, converting the large amount of data coming from the Intel Cyclone 10-driven new Ultra AL32 processing engine featuring up to 32x oversampling of the incoming PCM signal for the most accurate waveform reproduction. Additionally, the DCD-A110 eschews OP-amp post filter circuits in favour of a fully discrete filter stage with carefully selected custom-tuned audio parts chosen by the Denon sound master. The DCD-A110 is also equipped with two clock oscillators, one for each sampling frequency (44.1-kHz and 48- kHz) to thoroughly suppress jitter.
The limited-edition SACD player also features fully independent power supplies for digital and analogue circuits to eliminate interference or noise. The analogue power supply circuit boasts a fully discrete design optimised for audio with the original Denon large-capacity (3300 µF) block capacitor used for the power unit of the analogue audio circuitry after the D/A converter. The DCD-A110's power supply is built around an impressive array of custom parts. Here you'll find high-power bipolar junction transistors, a fully discrete voltage regulator circuit, high-sound-quality electrolytic capacitors, and polyphenylene sulfide capacitors.
DL-A110 Phono Cartridge
The Denon DL-A110 phono cartridge is a premium Moving Coil design, meticulously hand-spun in the Denon Audio Works factory in Shirakawa, Japan just as it was in the 1960s when it was first introduced as the DL-103 cartridge. This anniversary edition cartridge represents the longest-running product to wear the Denon badge.
Weighing only 6 grams, the lightweight DL-A110 silver-graphite headshell ensures the cartridge is held securely and perfectly aligned, producing a balanced, detailed sonic signature with extended low-frequency performance ideal for vinyl LP record enthusiasts, says the brand. The DL-A110 is equipped with a bayonet connector also known as the SME tonearm interface.
The AVC-A110 (€5500/£4999), PMA-A110 (€3500/£3199) and DCD-A110 (€3000/£2799) will be available at authorised Denon retailers in October 2020 with the DL-A110 (€599/£499) landing in November 2020.
