Long established loudspeaker manufacturer Definitive Technology has released a new and affordable entry-level range of loudspeakers aimed squarely at those looking to buy into high-performance sound for the first time.
Replacing their award-winning Studio range, the Demand Series of stand-mount speakers includes three models:
- D7 - 4.5” BDSS Drivers, 1” Aluminium Dome Tweeters and Bass Ports ($995 RRP)
- D9 – 5.25” BDSS Drivers, 1” Aluminium Dome Tweeters and 5x9” Passive Bass Radiators ($1295 RRP)
- D11 - 6.5” BDSS Drivers, 1” Aluminium Dome Tweeters and 6x10” Passive Bass Radiators ($1795 RRP)
- ST1 – Matching stands which can be filled with your choice of dry material suitable for D9 and D11 ($795 RRP)
Simon Zanin, Brand Manager for Advance Audio who represents Def Tech in Australia, told StereoNET:
The new Demand range features technology advancements to both the aluminium dome tweeter and mid-range/woofer sections. Each speaker delivers an unrivalled sweet spot, smoother high-frequency reproduction, and three-dimensional imaging for the most technically-advanced, premium bookshelf listening experience.
Opting for aluminium cone material, Def Tech says that “its versatility is what sets it apart from other metals offering superior acoustics while being light and malleable. “
Also unique is the offset tweeter assembly which they call a ‘20/20 Wave Alignment Lens’.
According to Definitive Technology:
Offsetting the tweeter by 5° delivers a more precise centre stereo image by eliminating undesirable symmetric diffraction off the corners of the front baffle.
The woofer also includes a patented Linear Response Waveguide which is said to extend both on and off axis frequency response and improves dispersion which results in a more natural midrange timbre and precise imaging.
Each cabinet is hand-crafted and meticulously sanded, painted with coated with five layers of premium black gloss paint, then buffed for a near-mirror piano black finish.
As we’ve come to expect from Definitive Technology, state-of-the-art technology and painstaking refinement have gone into the Demand Series, coming to market at a price that a decade ago was not even possible.
