Chord Company LeylineX CI Speaker Cable Launched

Chord Company's LeylineX speaker cables offer the maker's advances to A/V installs.

At The Bristol Hi-Fi Show 2020 Chord Company announced the LeylineX as being the “best speaker cable you might never see”.

Priced at £5p/m, the Chord Company LeylineX is said to benefit from the Wiltshire-based brand's latest XLPE speaker cable tech and promises to get the best performance from custom install electronics and loudspeakers. Additionally, we were told that the LeylineX will also provide consistent and reliable service in environments where cables may be non-removable.

Chord Company's original Leyline was ahead of other 16/2 install cables from launch, says the manufacturer. Apparently, this was due to tin-plated copper conductors that performed two roles. Firstly, it prevents oxidisation (crucial for non-removable cables where long-term performance is expected). Secondly, improved high-frequency performance over longer runs; Leyline could deliver surprising results even over 100 m lengths.

The Chord Company says that introducing its XLPE dielectric to custom install speaker cable is an improvement over the previous (and more commonly used) PVC. The move to XLPE in the British company's  RumourX, ShawlineX and most recently, EpicX domestic cabling followed the successful introduction of Taylon as a phase-stable insulation material in the flagship Sarum T and ChordMusic speaker cable.

Finally, to aid installation, the cable is metre-marked and is supplied in an easy-pull 152m pull-box; it also sports an EN50575 DCA-S2, D2, A1 CPR rating.

Price and availability

LeylineX is available now priced at £5p/m.
