Cambridge Audio Announces Edge M Monoblocks

Cambridge Audio has added the Edge M monoblock power amplifier to its high-end Edge series of hi-fi components.
Cambridge Audio's Edge series celebrates the British brand's 50-year history and the new 23.6 kg Edge M takes the principle designs of the existing Edge W power amplifier and applies it to a monoblock design.
Delivering twice the power the Edge M monoblock power amp is wrapped in an attractively minimalist design. Still, it features the Edge series' trademark curved extruded aluminium front and floating top plate. Additionally, Balanced and unbalanced inputs are provided along with speaker outputs, and under this minimal exterior lies some extraordinary audio engineering inside.
Edge M is said to retain “the characteristic clarity and musical depth of its Edge W stereo counterpart”. However, because each unit drives a single speaker, the power output is doubled to 200W RMS into 8 Ohms. As a result, Edge M promises effortless dynamics and a less strained sound, as well as less distortion per channel and between the channels.
With Edge M also being fully balanced from input to output, it boasts of being immune from noise and distortion.
As with the Edge W, Cambridge Audio says that its engineers have worked hard to minimise the number of components in the Edge M's signal path. This should mean there are fewer barriers between you and the music you love and to deliver a more faithful reproduction of the original recording.
As found in the Edge A and Edge W, Cambridge Audio's unique Class XA amplification format is also found in Edge M.
CA states that Class XA amplification technology offers the sound quality of a Class A design, but is more efficient as it produces less heat, and shifts the crossover point out of audible range, resulting in a cleaner sound.
Edge M uses opposing symmetry twin toroidal transformer design, which cancels out stray electromagnetic interference while at the same time offering outstanding power and maintaining consistent tonality even at loud volumes.
The Cambridge Audio Edge M monoblock power amplifier is priced at £3,999/ €4,499 and will be available from December 2020.
