Bang & Olufsen Beosound Emerge ‘Bookshelf Speaker’ Announced

The Beosound Emerge is Bang & Olufsen's new book-shaped speaker.

Bang & Olufsen's Beosound Emerge is the Danish firm's latest wireless speaker and sports a wedge-shaped design making it resemble a book opened slightly so it will stand.

Beosound Emerge

The Beosound Emerge was created in collaboration with Benjamin Hubert from London-based design agency Layer. Its similarity to a book was no accident as the 25.5 x 16.5 X 6.7 cm (HxWxD) speaker is meant to sit alongside books and other objects on sideboards, tables or, indeed, bookshelves. The intent is that it blends into the living space rather than standing out as a piece of hi-fi or any other tech, for that matter.

The side panels wrap around the speaker like a book's dust jacket, while the front of the speaker features the company's logo where the author's name would be on the spine. Literally, book smart!

The Beosound Emerge has also been designed to be more of a cherished first edition rather than a trashy novel and features an upgradeable connectivity module that can be upgraded when the time comes, just like the Beosound Level. This unit has been front-loaded with enough processing power and connectivity technology to receive new performance updates and features for years to come.

Behind the Kvadrat fabric is a 4-inch woofer, 1.45-inch mid-range and 0.6-inch tweeter, all powered by their own Class D amps, which Bang & Olufsen states covers a frequency range of 45Hz – 22 kHz. The Emerge plays nice with Apple AirPlay 2 and Chromecast, which also hands it multiroom skills. Additionally, the speaker is Bluetooth-equipped, and Google Assistant is onboard for voice control smarts.

The Beosound Emerge is available now and is offered in gold-tone or black anthracite finishes, costing £669/ €749 and £539/ €599, respectively.
