AUDIO-TECHNICA ATH-G1 WIRED AND WIRELESS GAMING HEADPHONES

Audio-Technica has announced that it is launching the ATH-G1 and ATH-G1WL gaming headsets.

The Japanese audio firm is launching a pair of premium gaming headsets with the promise of “precision audio reproduction, powerful performance and comfort”.

Audio-Technica ATH-G1

The new wired ATH-G1 and wireless ATH-G1WL draw heavily from the design of the company’s iconic ATH-M50x professional studio headphones, released in 2014. Both of the new eSports cans feature large-diameter 45 mm drivers and a specially-engineered detachable microphone, meaning that the headsets can quickly transform to proper portable ear-pleasers.

The ATH-G1’s lightweight design and open-back earpads promise to keep you comfortable through marathon gaming sessions, and the two-metre cable’s in-line remote features mute, and volume controls. Also bundled in the box is a Y-type stereo headset cable.

The detachable boom microphone is engineered with hypercardioid directionality, meaning it shouldn’t pick up any ambient noise or keyboard clattering – just clear voice commands. Naturally, this is a feature on both models.

The wireless ATH-G1WL model has low-latency 2.4GHz wireless connectivity and also adds virtual surround sound. There are controls for volume, mute and surround sound on the ear cup, and they boast 15 hours of battery life from a single charge. Don’t fret though; you can also use them as they charge.

The ATH-G1WL headset is compatible with laptops and PCs via its wireless USB type A transceiver, and you also get an extra pair of earpads in the box for replacement at a later date.

The wired ATH-G1 set plays nice with PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and any platform with a 3.5mm output. Its 1,300mW input capacity and dedicated soundcard promise a full-force, superior audio experience.

Price and availability

Audio-Technica has pencilled in a July release date for the new gaming headset with the Audio-Technica ATH-G1 priced £159/€179 and the Audio-Technica ATH-G1WL costing £229/€259.
