Acoustic Energy has announced the launch of the AE308 – the brand’s new active subwoofer that features DSP modes to further tailor performance.

Designed to complement and integrate seamlessly with the other models in the 300 Series, the AE308 offers low-end support for both Hi-Fi and AV implementations.

The latest addition to the 300 Series makes use of a new 500 Watt (RMS) amplifier mated to a 12-inch high-excursion doped and stiffened pulp-fibre driver. Furthermore, the AE308 also features DSP modes to tailor its performance to your listening situation.

In Music mode the AE308 will perform in a balanced, accurate manner, extending low frequencies of the main speakers naturally and seamlessly down to 26Hz (+/-6dB). However, in Movie mode, you benefit from additional “slam” on offer to aid explosive movie soundtracks in AV systems. Finally, Impact mode trades outright extension for maximum volume and impact, think more along the lines of a club set-up.

Acoustic Energy MD, Mat Spandl told StereoNET:

Rather than just launch a sub to complement our already successful 300 Series, we wanted to design a sub with substance; and one which could hold its own in any system as well as do justice to the rest of the 300 Series speakers. This sub has been long awaited from our dealers and distributors around the globe, and now it’s available, it’s been well worth the wait.

The AE308 is available in three finishes that match the rest of the 300 Series models and has sturdy carpet-piercing spikes which come with convenient rubber caps for use on hard flooring.

Price and availability

The new AE308 will be available from June 2019. UK SRPs are £899 for the Piano Gloss Black / Piano Gloss White, and £949 for the real walnut wood veneer version.
